There have been questions by some members in the past as to how to setup their jockeys so they get better jockeys riding their horses in races and how to get specific jockeys to ride on a horse in a Graded race. Here is how I do it. Just remember, other players are competing to get certain jockeys too, so you won't always get the jockey you want, but it improves your chances. Also as a note, this does not work if you do Manual jockey settings. You must have it set on your horse to Jockey Auto Style and not Manual setting. Hope this is helpful to those with questions regarding jockeys. Others may have their own method that works for them, but this is the method I use that works for me.
First go to the Jockey screen under the Misc tab and then check mark both boxes for division and then click Update. You will see the list of jockeys come up. Then you click on the Rmin box and this will put all jockeys in order from high to low Rmin.

Then on each jockey that has an Rmin you click on that jockey and open up the box for his controls. Let’s go down the list here and let us use R Bokie as our example…but you will start at the top of the list but I will explain in a minute what you do with jockeys with an Rmin over 100%. This is basic method will also help insure you get better jockeys consistently for all your horses and their races.
Once you click on our example, R Bokie you will see this box open up.

The Tiebreaker in the top right-hand corner of the box is all you are concerned with right now and you will do this same thing to every jockey that has an Rmin. Look on the left side of this box first. Do you see “Claimrace Min”? (That is the same number as the Rmin for the jockey) It says $75K. Now go up to your “Tiebreaker” in upper right corner and set it for 75 and click Save. In the event you have a jockey such as F Gossett who has an Rmin of 110K you simply set the Tiebreaker to 100 as that is as high as it will go. Also, once you get all the Tiebreakers set on all the jockeys you leave it and go back and review them about every 6 months to a year as Rmin does sometimes change based on the jockey's performance. The only other time you change the Tiebreaker is when trying to get a specific jockey to ride a horse in a Graded race. This is explained below.
Part 2: Using the same jockey, R Bokie and looking at the same above box. Let’s say you have a horse that is running in a G1 race and you really want R Bokie to ride that horse in that race. You simply bump up the “Tiebreaker” to 100 and click Save (this is a must do in order to try to get this jockey to ride your horse). But this is a popular jockey, and a lot of players may wish to have R Bokie ride their horse, not just you. So now here is where the Guarantee section of the above box comes into play. Bump that Guarantee up from 0% as high or low as you want the Guarantee to be and then click Save. The higher you set it, the more money you will have to pay that jockey after the race is over. So it is kind of like bidding to get this jockey to ride your horse. The higher that the Tiebreaker and Guarantee are set the higher chance you get of that horse getting that jockey.
Important Note: Once the race is Accepted and you see that the jockeys and odds are set for the race, go back into the jockey box as in the above example and lower the Guarantee back to Zero and reset the Tiebreaker back to 75 for R Bokie regardless of if you got him to ride your horse or not. If you don’t, he will end up being picked to ride a lot of your lower-level horses during the week and you will be paying him tons of money and drain the money in your stables. Also remember, G1 gets their jockey draws first for a Saturday or Sunday race, G2 gets to draw second and G3 gets to draw third and don’t even try to get a jockey for a Listed Stakes as it is not worth trying and you almost never get the jockey you want in a Listed Stakes.
If you have two jockeys, you like and would like to bid on you do the same thing as in our example on both jockeys. But again, remember you then have to go back in and set the jockey back to the way it was, or you will be paying for jockeys during the week you do not need or want to pay.
That is basically it. I hope I explained it well enough for you to follow. Jockey select can be hard and often comes with disappointment that you did not get the jockey you wanted. What I often do too is go to my horse and look at what jockey rode that horse and did well. If that jockey did well with your horse in a prior race perhaps, they will do well together again. Simple click on your horse and if you see a good jockey that rode well with that horse, simply click on the Jockeys name and this jockey box will open up and you can set it just like in the example above. But again, remember to go change it back after the race is Accepted and you see the odds and the jockey you got for the horse.
FYI: If the race is on Saturday or Sunday, I usually prioritize my jockeys on Tuesday to make sure to have it done prior to the jockey draw for the race I have my horse entered in. I usually set things back to the way they were on Thursday or Friday afternoon if the race has been Accepted and the jockey draw is complete.
